How to Get the Floating Candles Map

Acquiring the map depends on which Hogwarts house your student belongs to during the main storyline. Gryffindors discover the map near a graveyard crypt, while Slytherins locate it in a grotto under the castle. Ravenclaws can pick up the map in the Owlery, whereas Hufflepuffs find it inside a chest in Upper Hogsfield.

Regardless of your house origin, collecting this parchment unlocks the map directly in your inventory. Inspecting the image reveals key clues including a forest entrance, a bridge, and a magic spell icon. These visual hints direct players toward the edge of the castle grounds.

Starting Location for the Candle Trail

To begin the search, travel to the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame fast travel point. Once you arrive, turn toward the nearby stone bridge spanning the river. Make sure you check your in-game map to advance time to nighttime, as the puzzle cannot be triggered during daylight hours.

Stand near the edge of the stone bridge and cast the Lumos spell with your wand. As soon as your wand tip illuminates, three glowing floating candles will magically materialize in front of you. These enchanted lights serve as your visual guide through the woods.

Following the Floating Candles to the Treasure

Once the candles spawn, begin walking along the path as they move slowly into the forest trees. Stay relatively close to the glowing trail so you do not lose your direction in the dark. The route remains safe and avoids high-level combat encounters if you stay on the main track.

The candles will guide you up a small path toward a romantic hilltop setting complete with a table and chairs. Upon reaching this candlelit clearing, a hidden chest will appear nearby to reward your exploration. Opening the chest completes the quest and grants gold, gear, and experience points.
